Week Five
So far I have been very satisfied with my gardening experience this semester. I honestly wasn't expecting to learn as much as I did about gardening, I always thought it was just as simple as putting a seed in the ground and giving it water but clearly it is much more complicated than just that. It has been very fulfilling to work through the process of germination step-by-step using the peat pellets and actually being able to see the fruits of my labor (though not yet in a literal sense, but hopefully fruits will be coming soon.) At least one of each type of vegetable in the peat pellets has germinated, including the bell peppers which hadn't sprouted when I wrote the previous post. The seeds I planted in the containers outside have sprouted and are steadily growing, which is a good sign. The only thing that concerns me is that the sunflower plants are growing very fast but they appear to be growing sideways rather than upright. I'm not sure if this is normal but I plan on looking into it and I may have to make some adjustments to the placement or water schedule of that plant in particular. I've also transplanted two tomato plants and a cucumber plant from the pellets to my pots outside because they have at least two leaves. So far, I'm very happy with my progress and I hope that my garden will continue to prosper as the semester continues.
