Week Eleven
This week I continued to water and fertilize my garden and I also continued to use the fungicide spray and the pest control spray that I made. My plants are looking healthy as ever and I'm almost positive that my cucumber plant is about ready to be growing an actual cucumber soon so that is very exciting. The word per word definition of organic agriculture is "a production system that sustains the health of soils, ecosystems and people. It relies on ecological processes, biodiversity and cycles adapted to local conditions, rather than the use of inputs with adverse effects. Organic Agriculture combines tradition, innovation and science to benefit the shared environment and promote fair relationships and a good quality of life for all involved." A lot of this has to do with preserving the environment around us and making sure we have usable soil for many years to come. Much of the marketing for organic foods relies on the fact that organic food can be healthier for you. It would be difficult to market organic vegetables, for example, based solely on the premise of being more environmentally conscious. People like to have something in it for themselves, and oftentimes organic foods can be better for you because you are not consuming any potentially dangerous chemicals. Anyways, I'm looking forward to checking on the growth of my cucumber plant in the coming days because I can only assume that I will begin to see some fruit somewhere in that time frame.
